چکیده مقاله:

This investigation concern about effect of initial ferrous concentration, pH, aeration rate and copper compounds on ferrous iron oxidation by aeration. Soluble ferrous is usually present in groundwater by contact with rocks and minerals. Iron does not present a health hazard, contrary to heavy metals, but it usually causes unpleasant odors and tastes. Another source for dissolved iron in drinking water in distribution networks may be the pipelines through which water flows, as water with high salinity or acidity from dissolved carbon dioxide or other acids is corrosive to metal pipes. Oilfield produced water is generally deprived of oxygen and so has a high content of reduced iron. Following oilfield development, most oilfields have progressed to secondary recovery, adopting a water reinjection process to drive oil from the strata. Water quality used for reinjection has a great effect on the effectiveness of oilfield excavation. Total iron content is one of the important indexes of water reinjection quality. If total iron content exceeds the maximum recommended levels of oilfield produced water, consequences will include instability of water reinjection quality, formation plugging, pipeline blockage and corrosion, and increases in production cost and effluent turbidity. Therefore it is vital that total iron content of oilfield produced water be reduced to less than 0.5mg/l. the presence of iron is probably the most common water problem faced in many cases. Aeration is the most economical method for removal of iron and requires no chemicals. The results indicate that higher pH increases reaction rate; Also iron(II) oxidation is much faster when initial iron (II) concentration increases. When copper exist in the solution the oxidation rate increases. A possible reason is catalytic effect of copper on oxidation reaction. Experimental results showed oxidation rate increases with copper concentration
