Selecting TOD hubs in order to improve the city center by using Space syntax Analysis, with the case study of central part of Tehran metropolis

As one of the thirty biggest populated centers in the world, the Tehran city, is struggling with problems in spatial structure, type of distribution of land use in city, and lack of the center, which leads to problems like air pollution, heavy traffic congestion, wasting time in commutes, and as a result, reduction of the quality of life. The establishment of the Tehran metro and BRT lines has not had good effect on urban problems of Tehran through past ten years because public transportation development has not led to land use changes. For this reason the aim of this study is selecting mass public transportation stations. By the allocation of mixed and high density land use in the lands in periphery of those stations, center of Tehran can be improved. For this purpose stations which have more important position in spatial structure of the city must be selected. In this study Space Syntax Analysis is used to determine these stations. Each station which is in more significant integration has higher potential for implementation of the TOD projects, and as a result for improvement of center of Tehran. Our results show that stations with high integration are mostly placed in Enghelab axis; therefore, the project can be defined in this axis as a corridor and linear center
