چکیده مقاله:

The southern of Iraq plateau, which located between AL Najaf - Karbala and Wadi al-Batin’s fans, which covers an area of 115,253 km2, this dry area is suitable for agricultural investment, especially in the west of the Slibat low . The study area consists of a group of seasonal valleys, Al-Hawaimi, Abu Ghar, Al-Kaseer, Al-Ghuwair, Al-Sudair, Abu Hazeer, Al-Ashali and Al-Hussam valley . Most of these valleys have formed alluvial fans, With fertile soil for agricultural investment The area currently invested small and very limited, constituting less than 1%. Remote sensing techniques and geographic information systems were used to detect soil characteristics and natural resources, as well as the field study for take samples of soil, surface water, and groundwater samples .These samples were taken to the laboratory for analysis, to determine their qualitative characteristics And compare them with the results of supervised and unsupervised classification for satellite-imagery. The soil of the study area was formed on the surface of the alluvial fans of the seasonal valleys, formed in the Pleistocene Era and ending in the Slibat’s Low . Thus, it is considered a large land that can be invested due to the nature of its climate, flat surface and soil thickness as well as the physical and chemical characteristics of the soil suitable for most agricultural activities. As well as the availability of surface water resources for seasonal wadis that irrigate the agricultural lands. The run sheet is also used to wash the soil and renew its fertility by transferring large amounts of soils rich in prepared minerals elements and the availability of ground water represented in the formation of Dammam, Umm Erdhuma, Tayarat and Haartha. Which runs deep between (80-350 m), which is a good quality water when using modern irrigation methods of spraying or sprinkling irrigation.
