چکیده مقاله:

In recent decades, learning and teaching English has gained importance for both adults and very young children. Therefore, songs, games, art-craft activities and short stories have proved to be practical instruments for very young learners; especially, short stories are great tools to teach vocabulary as words are best acquired in a meaningful context. Most of suffer from lack of sufficient knowledge of vocabulary and get frustrated by not knowing the meaning of key words in a passage; short stories, for example, help students to learn the four skills, listening, speaking, reading and writing more effectively because of the motivational benefit embedded in the stories. To find ways to enriches students’ knowledge of vocabulary one of which is using authentic materials such as short stories that make it possible for the learners to widen their vocabulary anddevelop their competence and become more autonomous learners. In addition, with short stories, the teachers can teach literary, cultural, and higher-order thinking aspects. However, teachers attempt to use short stories in their EFL classes particularly at the beginner level for young learners; they should understand the benefits of short stories and plan classes that meet the needs of their students. The aim of this review is to represent the implementation of various experiences which would be highly useful for teachers in the process of teaching. This can be attributed to the positive effect of using short stories on developing vocabulary learning of EFL learners
