چکیده مقاله:

Course books are a core part of any curriculum. This research is a descriptive analysis to check some of the strong or the weak points of the new English book (Prospect 1) for Iranian junior secondary students (2013). The findings of the research revealed some main strength such as: a. The emphasis is on Communicative Language Teaching approach; b. The emphasis is on the integration of four skills; c. Attention is paid to the students needs, and some weaknesses which are as follows: a. Letters are not in the right range; Each lesson provides three letters; b. Time allocated to the book in curriculum program is not enough; c. Reading and writing are paid less attention. This analysis is based on the features of content analysis and syllabus design. It also intends to check the organization and the main content of the book. In this research, the course book was evaluated in term of ‘practical considerations, activities and tasks, appropriacy, supplementary materials, general impression, content and skills and whole aspect’. This research is hopefully expected to be useful in revising the current book and also in organizing the other English books of Prospect. The results indicated that the textbooks are not acceptable
