MAD-COPE: a novel and effective approach for handling side effects in self-management systems

Self management systems are a kind of autonomic computing systems which include monitoring, analysis, diagnosis and reconfiguring operations. These systems are able to adapt their behavior or structure at runtime. Self management systems involve self optimizing, self protecting, self configuring and self healing subsystems. As the actions of each of these sub systems affect the others, handling the side effects of a subsystem operation can improve the overall performance of the self management system. As a result, in this paper the side effect problem is considered and an effective approach is proposed to handle it.
