چکیده مقاله:
The results of an experimental study followed by finite-element simulation using ABAQUS/CAE are presented in order to investigate the edgewise and flatwise compressive behaviors of three-dimensional woven glass-fiber sandwich composites under quasi-static loading. Three-dimensional woven glass-fiber sandwich composites are a new type of sandwich constructions with a high skin-core debonding resistance. This is due to the fact that skins are interconnected by vertical glass-fiber threads, called piles. In addition to this outstanding advantage against the traditional sandwich composites, good mechanical performance of this kind of sandwich composite offers an excellent potential for naval engineering applications, as well as other transportation structures which need high mechanical strength with a light weight. Several experiments performed on specimens with different core thicknesses on the basis of related ASTM test standards. It is also tried to predict the mechanical behavior of the mentioned sandwich composites by finite-element analysis of their micro-mechanical model. Comparison between the predictions by finiteelement analysis and the experimental results showed good agreement
