چکیده مقاله:

Functionally graded materials (FGMs) are a new type of composites with non-homogenous microstructure and variable mechanical properties. The physical and mechanicalproperties of FGMs vary in the thickness direction continuously. In this research, powder metallurgy method has been used to fabricate functionally graded Copper-Iron specimens with more than 97% relative density in 5 layers. First, the metal powder layers are pressed under cold iso-static pressure (CIP) at 400 MPa. Then the brittle pressed specimens are sintered with a defined cycle at 1000oC in a proper vacuum furnace. The composition of layers is changed by a linear function from the Cu rich face to the Fe rich one. The micrographs have been investigated to observe the microstructure of FGM, morphology and composition between the layers. Three-point bending tests were conducted in order to obtain the mechanical properties of the fabricated FGM specimens. The resulting functionally graded Cu-Fe shows improved mechanical properties incomparison with pure iron and copper.
