Identifying Publishing trend, Leading Universities, Authors, Countries, Journals, andResearch Front of Biofeedback Field Based on Documents Indexed in WoS

Purpose: This study focus on the publication analysis of Biofeedback field. In line with this aim,we used documents indexed in Web of Science database, one of the most prestigious scientificdatabases in the world that selects and indexes scientific literature of all subject fields.Methods: Current research is a descriptive study and falls in the category of studies named scientometric analysis . All documents under the topic of Biofeedback indexed in WoSdatabase constitute research population. To find these documents, the Biofeedback keyword wassearched in the topic field of WoS. This search led to finding of 10882 documents. Thesedocuments were analyzed using WoS database facility namely Analyze Results . Furthermore,to realize the research front of the field a co-word analysis was took place with Citespacesoftware, a science mapping software developed by University of Drexel in USA. Results:Finding indicate that the number of documents in the Biofeedback, with some exceptions, hadincreasing trend since their start at 1971. Among other Universities, University of CaliforniaSystem took the 1st place with publishing 205 documents. University of London and HarvardUniversity with 193 and 190 documents took the 2nd and 3rd place respectively. There is nouniversity from Iran among the 25 productive universities of the field. However, further analysisrevealed that the Islamic Azad University, Iran University of Medical Sciences, Shahid BeheshtiUniversity Medical Sciences, and Tehran University of Medical Sciences are the mostproductive universities of Iran in term of indexed documents in WoS. Another finding of thisstudy was identifying productive authors. Accordingly, Blanchard EB, Birbaumer N, andWhitehead WE with 103, 70, and 66 indexed documents in WoS were the most productiveauthors of the field. On the other hand, Firoozabadi M, Kajbafzadeh AM, Rostami R, andSharifi-Rad L were the most productive Iranian authors in Biofeedback field. Results showedthat USA, Germany, and England are leading countries in publishing Biofeedback documents;While Iran took the 25th place in term of indexed documents in Wos under the Biofeedbacktopic. Journals are important source of Biofeedback documents indexed in WoS. AppliedPsychophysiology and Biofeedback , Biofeedback and Self- Regulation , and Gastroenterology are the three most productive journal in the Biofeedback field. Finally,Results showed that Keywords including cognitive behavioral therapy , ultrasound , irritablebowel syndrome , and are burst keywords that attracted attention of Biofeedback researchers inrecent years, thus they could be called research front of the field. Conclusion: It is concludedthat the authors and universities whose origin are mainly from America and Europe have mainly governed the Biofeedback field. Among Asian countries, Japan is ahead of others. Burstness ofkeywords like cognitive behavioral therapy and ultrasound reveals that biofeedback takesadvantage of cognitive therapy as well as medical therapy.
