Iranian architecture has a strong and rich foundation in the various aspects of sustainability, art and culture that can be used at the service of today designs. Important issues of sustainable architecture is according to different categories such as ecological, low cost, availability, environmental sustainability, and more. By studying the traditional architecture of this land could be called one of the aspects of sustainable architecture or a sustainable architecture. Always used of affordable energy like solar, wind and light has been considered, in traditional building. That is why buildings in different regions have different plans and making the maximum use of energy is mentioned. Today architecture and building cover the most part of environment. With the advancement of technology in various ways, despite the many advantages of the design should be alert to the risks, particularly in the area of environmental sustainability. This paper is a study of traditional architectural housing in cold climates concept of sustainability and considering the pros and accommodate today's lifestyle in residential environment designed, provide an opportunity to adapt and combine the solutions to the current situation, the steps to be taken towards sustainable development. Descriptive and analytical study of the documents is refer to the impressive documentation and research in this field. Have propounded the suitable dimensions of traditional areas housing in the cold climate and with this aspect of the project, to pave the path towards sustainability. The results of this study with the goal of achieving efficient and high quality spaces in housing architecture through space response criteria like link with nature and at the same time it is possible to take advantage of new technologies
