Physical examination and maintenance of residential space in a nursing home

Because of medical advances, reduction of mortality and decrease of birth rate statistics, theelderly population is increasing. So, it is necessary to deal with increase of the elderly popularplanning appropriately. Neglect of physical and psychological needs of the elderly; causing lessof hope and life satisfaction in older people and causes weakness of old age has become more.Nursing home is the first and the simplest solution that is raised to solve the problems of theelderly, but because some of older people’s needs are not removed such as their spiritual needs,another pattern was raised and carried in West that is called the Village Elderly . The purposeof this study is to achieve a social and functional space to solve all needs of the elderly. But thelack of attention to the psychological and the physical needs of the elderly in design of nursinghomes increased depression and reduce their life expectancy.This research is going to deal withthe physical examination of nursing home space in order to meet their needs. This is a qualitativeresearch and has done through the library study by taking notes with the review of literature. Theresults show that attention to nursing home space leads to meet spiritual and physical needs ofthe elderly, as well as their character development. The findings of this research are used bydesigners and architects to create suitable residential space to solve the spiritual and physicalneeds of the elderly.
