چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: Stroke is the 2nd common cause of death and also the first cause of disability worldwide. Aim:Considering the important role of sex hormones, especially Progestrone,in the course of the stroke, the purpose of this study was to determine the serum levels of progestrone in over 50 years old men suffering from ischemic stroke admitted to neurology ward of Kowsar hospital in Semnan in 2016. Methods:In this cross sectional study, 57 men with ischemic stroke who were admitted to neurology ward of Kowsar hospital and were over 50 years old and criterias for entering to study were selected by convenient mehtod. Demographic data of each patient,the degree of disability evaluated based on the MRS(Modified Rankin Scale) and serum progestrone level by quantitative luminescence method.Results:The mean and S.D levels of serum progestrone were 0.389±0.045 pg/dl that has been in the normal range of healthy men. the most common risk factor was hypertension(HTN) (68.4%).The disability was lower than baseline levels in admmition.( 3.07 ± 1.027 vs. 3.77±1.282, P = 0.000) Conclusion:Results showed that the average serum progestrone in men with ischemic stroke compared to an average serum progestrone in healthy men was different
