چکیده مقاله:

Background: Wound healing is a dynamic biologic process which includes 3 phases of inflammation, tissue formation and tissue remodeling. Wound dressing is used routinely in burn wards. Dressing acts as a barrier between wound and environment and prevents dryness and improves autolytic debridement. Golden standard of burn wounds is autologous skin split graft (SSG), but in patients with severe burns the donor skin is limited, and covering the entire wounds requires several surgeries and long time hospitalization. The aim of present study was to compare the efficacy of autologous epidermal cell suspension in comparison to silver sulfadiazine ointment on healing of second degree burns. Materials and Methods: In the present study as a clinical trial and during 5 months between November 2017 and March 2018, 12 patients with second degree burns who were hospitalized at burn ward of Sina Hospital of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences entered the study according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Then through a process by punch biopsy of patients skin a suspension of autologous epidermal cell prepared and then applied on randomly selected 2×2 cm site of burned skin. The other sites covered by silver sulfadiazine ointment as routinely were done. The burned skin evaluated and compared for healing and complications every 5 days till 20 days and 2 months later. Results: 10 out of 12 patients were male (83.3%) and 2 cases were female (16.7%). The mean age was 40.83±15.98 years. In all four times of evaluation of the site of suspension applied, the results were significantly better (P value< 0.05). Conclusions: The administration of autologous epidermal cell suspension can result in significantly effective healing with fewer complications in second degree skin burns.
