چکیده مقاله:

In terms of literature death has always been of interest in creative and critical writings. However, mostly the consideration of death has been limited to immortality of name after death. In this essay, on the other hand, it has been discussed how Louise Gluck has approached death from a different perspective. To her, death is not the cause of mortality; inversely, it is the cause of immortality. Through the psychoanalytic theories of Freud and Lacan and the study of self it has been recognized that in Gluck’s poetry, death is not an end to things but it is the substitution for the eternal lack that every human being feels in every aspect of his/her life. Regarding to this, three of Louis Gluck’s poems are being analyzed as evidence to the emergence of the hidden entity who desires consistency and immortality, which is death. This entity is believed to be the speaker of the poems whose attitude and feeling is of importance throughout the analysis of the poems.
