The present paper addresses a numerical analysis of the film boiling phenomenon on a vertical surface. For predicting the interface surface between fluid and vapor the coupled level-set volume-of-fluid (CLSVOF) method is employed. The governing continuity, momentum and energy equations, which include the spatial and temporal changes, and also the interface evolution equation, have been solved by a finite volume method implementing the TDMA algorithm. The power law scheme has been used in order to discretize convection terms in extended momentum equations. The PISO algorithm is used for coupling the pressure and velocity equations. It is assumed that the vertical surface is smooth and at a constant temperature. Also, all properties of both phases are constant and the flow is laminar. The velocity and temperature fields and also the interface surface have been computed. The present numerical results are compared with the other numerical and analytical data displaying reasonable agreement. Finally, effect of variable properties in vapor phase is investigated and compared with constant properties.
