چکیده مقاله:

The present study aimed at investigating the inclusion of pragmatic aspects of language in international and national English textbooks used in Iranian EFL context. The speech act situations of complaint and compliment were the matter of consideration in intermediate of Interchange book series as Internatioanl English book and Iran Language Institute (ILI) English book (Intermediate level) and state school English book (first grader English book). All in all 39 dialogs were selected from the three national books. An analysis of the selected corpus showed that some similarities and differences in terms of the application of different speech acts exist among the three selected textbooks. Furthermore, the same frequency of speech act of acceptance is spoted in ILI ande state school English textbooks. As the implication of the result of the study can be taken into consideration by those who claim responsibility for EFL/ESL courses and syllabus designers. They require to be aware that the materials selected for the learners be authentic and motivating for learners in terms of both linguistic and pragmaticaspects of language.
