چکیده مقاله:

This essay compares classicaland postclassical narratology. Classical narratology refers primarily to the narrative poetics of Russian formalism and French structuralism. Classical narratology was theoretically centripetal with its tendency to subsume all narratives under one assumed universal grammar. However, postclassical narratology is not a unified theory and is centrifugally open to various interdisciplinary diversifications. Drawing upon cognitive sciences, feminism, postcolonialism, rhetorical theory, and ethics, among many other things, what distinguishes postclassical narratology in general from classical narratology is the former’s attention to context (both the context of production and reception) and interpretation.
