Iranian EFL Teachers' Non-verbal Immediacy, Assertiveness- Responsiveness and Students' Interpersonal Trust and Personality Traits; A Structural Equation Modeling Approach

The study aimed at investigating the network of relationships existing among Iranian students' perceptions of teacher's non-verbal immediacy, assertiveness-responsiveness, in light of their personality traits and trust toward their teachers.In so doing, 340 students received four questionnaires;namely Non-Verbal Immediacy measure developed by Richmond, Gorham, & McCroskey, (1987), Richmond & McCroskey, (1990) questionnaire of socio-communicative style (Assertiveness-Responsiveness), NEO five-factor personality traits Costa & McCrae, (1992) and (Student' trusts toward teachers),developed by Adams and Patrick Forsyth (2004),. After administration of the questionnaires, the acquired data was analyzed running SPSS and AMOS. The descriptive statistics and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was run to investigate relationships among the variables of the study. Having confirmed the hypothesized model, the results confirmed significant relationship between students' perceptions of teacher assertiveness-responsiveness, nonverbal immediacy and students' personality traits and trust toward their teachers.The final model of the network of associations among variables also revealed significant correlations among various subscales of the study.
