The Effect of L1 Translation on Recognition of Discourse Markers in L2 Texts: An Iranian Beginner EFL Context

This study investigates the effect of L2 translation on recognition of discourse markers in L2 text among Iranian beginner EFL learners. For conducting this research, two group of students were selected for a cloze test. One group were only given the test and the other one were given the test as well as the translation of the content of the test. The students’ attitude toward the effect of translation and discourse markers on their reading comprehension skills were also investigated through interview. The result of the study indicated that there is a significance difference between the scores of the two group and the L1 translation had a positive effect on the test scores of the students.
