چکیده مقاله:

This paper discuses Arthur Miller‘s character, Willy Loman , In Death of a Salesman in terms of his identity crisis. Willy Loman is a modern hero in 1940s America whose desire is to be ―someone‖ in the society. Depicting of Willy‘s daydreams underscore his failure to reconcile with his past and present situations, thus he is unable to understand how his present is informed by the past. He can‘t be free from the past and believes that a future does not exist for him. His problems stem from his delusions, the American Dream turning sour, and misunderstanding his job and family. Miller represents individuals who try to survive and quest for self- identity in a capitialistic commercialized world. Miller explores the impact of identity crisis made for one‘s family versus humanity whole. Thus, the study of the action of Willy Loman in a play can effectively led to an understanding of the nature of his ―Identity Crisis
