چکیده مقاله:

The issue of bias is further complicated by the problem of clearly distinguishing elements of culture and educational background from the language abilities we want to measure. The population of this study comprised learners with intermediate proficiency level at Safir Institute in Tehran. They were selected from among 60 learners through administering a Placement Test as pre-test. For this purpose, both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to compare the results of the groups. For descriptive statistics, the mean, standard deviation, as well as minimum and maximum scores were provided. As for the inferential statistics, since there were four groups, based on sex and social class, involved in the study, one-way ANOVA and the related post hoc tests were employed. Regarding the results of the posttest the findings of the study revealed that first, upper social class and middle social class have different effects on Iranian students’ immediate learning of reading section of IELTS, and since the mean difference is positive, it can be said that high class had a better performance than middle class.
