The use of mobile technology in learning English has been increasing in our country over the past few years. However, there have been only limited numbers of studies on the topic of mobile-assisted receptive skill improvement. The present study aims to discover whether the use of mobile technology could better augment Iranian EFL learners’ listening ability and motivation towards mobile-assisted language learning and check their anxiety. For this end, a group of university students from Azaduniversity were selected (n=24) and were randomly allocated to two groups: the experimental group (n=24), who worked on extensive listening practice on mobile phone contents, and the control group (n=24), who practiced listening through traditional methods. Furthermore, students’ entry level of listening anxiety was assessed by foreign language listening anxiety questionnaire and their listening comprehension was assessed by Key English Test (KET) prior to the study. For one semester the experimental group did their listening activities by using podcasts listened to on their mobile phones and/or portable digital media players and meanwhile the control group used their desktop computers. The results of the study indicated that the experimental group outperformed the control group on their listening comprehension.
