چکیده مقاله:

The objective of this study was to identify the challenges the undergraduate engineering students of Shiraz Universitycome across in their subject-specific English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses. The participants were selectedbased on purposeful convenience sampling in the academic year of 2016-2017 and included 24 male and femaleundergraduate students who had passed the two-credit EAP course provided by the engineering department. A semistructuredinterview was used as the main data collection instrument. The results of the study indicated that a majorityof the students were dissatisfied with their EAP course material, the development of their language skills, the allocationof time to English instruction throughout the undergraduate program and the subject-specific specialization of theinstructors. Based on this needs analysis (NA), it is recommended that these issues be reflected in future EAPcurriculum development. This study has practical implications for educational policy makers and syllabus designers.
