To translate literary, historical, novel, and other types of texts, different methods and frameworks exist andtranslators also consider their personal opinion in choosing the style of translation along the existing translationmethods. In order to select a method that is attractive by the readers, the translator must have sufficientinformation about different views on translation styles. For this purpose, the present study was an attempt toreview the viewpoints of male and female ELT learners in semantic and communicative notions of Newmark intranslating the collocations of the Lord of the Flies novel. To this end, some collocations randomly areselected in three categories, and various translations were reviewed from four different translations of it andafter preparing a questionnaire and distributing it among ELT learners, required data for this research wascollected. Different statistical methods were applied to the obtained information in order to answer the researchquestion and to obtain a clear and reliable result, to determine which method of translation was more attractivein different groups. The results showed that the communicative method was more attractive for males thanfemales and also the Verb + Adv. category was more attractive compared to two other categories. This study hassome implications for translators and syllabus designers.
