Exploring the Effect of Blended Learning on Vocabulary Knowledge of English Language Learners

Besides pure e-learning which refers to using electronic media to enhance learning, blended learning offersmore to supplementing traditional learning environment with different kinds of technology-based instruction. This studyaimed to investigate the effect of blended learning on English as a foreign language learners’ vocabulary learning. EFLadvanced learners were divided into two groups of experimental and control group, with experimental group studyingthe target vocabulary through blended learning strategies, and the control group studying the vocabulary through atraditional method. The treatments were followed by a post-test and a semi-structured interview to explore the learners’perceptions of the blended strategies. The results of the study indicated that contrary to the results of previous studies,blended learning did not lead to a more enhanced vocabulary learning which might be due to the duration of thetreatment or the types of strategies.
