DEFORMATION IN THE TRANSLATION OF NOVEL ANALYSIS OF WILLIAM FAULKNER'S 'THE SOUND AND THE FURY' BASED ON ANTONIE BERMAN'S DEFORMING TENDENCIES

Translating literature is one of the most elegant tasks in translating texts. One of the literary genres is novel that every translator has a different style and adopts different strategies in its rendering. This research is to work on the novel, the Sound and the Fury, translated by Saleh Hoseini. The present study considers the negative analytic theory of translation introduced by Antoine Berman (1985) to determine the extent of their application and the most prevalent procedures applied in translation of novel. The theory mainly covers twelve deforming tendencies that are somehow clear in translator’s work. The theory suggests that, the higher the number of a deforming tendency, the more prevalent the procedure is which also alludes to the style of translation. The results indicates that after the destruction of linguistic patterning which includes rationalization, clarification and expansion word level has been the most prevalent deforming tendency in the translation of the novel in which ennoblement has happened more than any other procedure
