چکیده مقاله:

Soil contamination with organic and toxic substances is one of the common environmental problems in nature. Crude oil is one of the famous contaminants of soil. Crude oil is of significant economic importance to the development of any nation in terms of energy generation, fuel, employment and as a source of raw materials for petrochemical industries. However, Exploration, extraction and explotation of crude oil can lead to the oil spill and consequently soil contamination. On the other hand, contamination due to crude oil can cause by spills from storage tank, spills while transporting, insufficient collection of wastes, spills from broken pipes and so on. Contamination due to crude oil can cause changes in physical and chemical feautures of the soil; hence, considering geotechnical properties of contaminated soil seems significant for engineering purposes. In this research, the effects of crude oil contamination on the geotechnical characteristics of soils are evaluated by the results of Atterberg limit tests, standard compaction test, direct shear and uniaxial compressive strength.
