چکیده مقاله:

The use of stopper holes is one of the easiest methods to reduce the stress intensity factorat the tip of the crack and thus reduce the growth rate of the crack. The effectivenessof stopping holes in inhibiting crack growth is considered based on their effect onstress intensity coefficients. The numerical results indicate that the position and size ofthe stopping holes influences the amount of crack stress intensity coefficient. Byincreasing the size of the holes on both sides of the crack and decreasing theirhorizontal and vertical distances from the crack tip, the intensity of the stress intensityis also increased. However, fatigue cracks usually occur in places where excavation ofthe cavity in required dimensions due to geometric constraints is not feasible. In sucha situation, crack may start again from the hole. Hence, there is a need to reinforcebroken holes. In the present study, a combination of cracked cavities and carbon-fiberreinforced polymers (CFRP) under static loads was studied using finite elementanalysis (FEA) to evaluate its potential as a modification technique. The steel platewith the primary center crack under static tensile loading (Mode I) was considered. The holes of both sides of the cracks were molded and CFRP pieces were applied oneach side of the cracks. ANSYS software used in order to perform numerical analysis.
