چکیده مقاله:

Background: Mild cognitive impairment is a transitional condition from natural aging to Alzheimer disease. Also, muscle strength in this spectrum is reduced due to inactivity. This group is excluded from the research because of cognitive decline, isolation, and in the cases of lack of collaboration. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of Thera band and Thera band-game exercises on the strength of the lower extremity of elderly people with mild cognitive impairment.Materials and Methods: This is a semi-experimental research that was carried out using pre-test and post-test research. In this research, 30 men with mild cognitive impairment were selected in private centers of elderly homes in Rasht. The MMSE test was used to select subjects. Then, they were randomly divided into three groups: Thera band (67.9 ± 3.72, N=10), Thera band-game (70.80 ± 2.61 years, N=10), and control group (68.90 ± 3.78 years, N=10). The exercises lasted for 8 weeks, three sessions per week, and each session for 40 minutes in the afternoon. The game protocol was also conducted in the morning for 30 minutes. In this study, MMT was used to measure muscle strength in the elderly. Results: The results showed that Thera band and Thera band-play exercises had a significant effect on the strength of the lower extremities of the elderly with mild cognitive impairment (p=0.05), but there was no significant difference between the Thera band and Thera band-game groups. Conclusion: According to the results, Thera band and Thera band-play exercises improve the strength of the lower extremities of the elderly with mild cognitive impairment. Therefore, such exercises, due to availability and affordability to improve the muscular strength of the elderly, which is one of the components involved in balance, have been recommended to be performed in elderly homes under the supervision of the instructor
