چکیده مقاله:

Objective: Sudden mortality of about 5000 rainbow trouts was reported to the veterinary clinic. In this study, salt poisoning in trout is reported. Method & Materials: The whole brain washed with Ringer’s solution. Then sodium concentration was measured with flame atomic absorption spectrometry. Results & Conclusion: In necroscopy examination, lesions as inflammation and hemorrhage were seen in gastrointestinal tract and liver. With careful monitoring, we hypothesized that affected fishes by these signs can actually die of acute toxicosis. It was very probable, food or water had been contaminated with toxins. But, food content had been unchanged. That was evident; the sudden death is a direct result of water. In farm inspection, 100 Kg salt was recognized as source of toxicosis. This analytical results confirmed diagnosis of salt poisoning. This is the first report on rainbow trout salt poisoning in Iran. It is especially important to notify about the risk of excess using of salt as natural product for control diseases or pests by pisciculturists.
