چکیده مقاله:

Objective: Controlling fungal pollution in fertilized eggs is one of the most critical factors in the artificial breeding of sturgeons. Zataria multiflora is a member of family lamiacea that is one of the most reputable herbal medicine in Iranian traditional medicine. The present study, evaluates the application of Zataria multiflora essence to control fungal infection in Acipenser persicus eggs during incubation. Method & Materials: Eggs and sperms were collected from a pair of A. persicus breeders in spring 2008 and were fertilized and then evenly distributed in seven Yusehenko incubators. After gastrulation (35 h after fertilization based on Detlaff et al., 1993) until 24 h before hatching, the eggs were treated with Zataria multiflora essence applied in four doses of 10, 15, 25 and 50ppm for a period of 30 min. Three replicates were used for each trial. Results & Conclusion: The results obtained from the present survey showed that dose of 50 ppm Zataria multiflora essence was effective in decreasing the number of fungal infected eggs. It is evident from the results obtained that highest rate (55.37%) belonged to the experimental group exposed to 50 ppm Zataria multiflora essence as compared to that in the other experimental groups and in the control group. On the basis of the fungal cultures prepared from the different groups studied it is evident that the Zataria multiflora essence in the dose of 50 ppm had significance difference with control group (p<0.05) and created suitable inhibition against water fungi.
