چکیده مقاله:

This study investigated the potential use of nano structured alumina as new adsorbents for removal of copper ions from water and wastewater. The effect of important variables such as adsorbent dosage, initial metal ions concentration, pH and contact time were experimentally studied to evaluate the adsorption capacity, kinetics and equilibrium. Experimental results revealed that optimal adsorption took place at acidic pH=4. The time required for the removal of metal ions from aqueous solutions was about 180 min. The batch sorption kinetics has been tested and the applicability of the Langmuir, Freundlich and Tempkin adsorption isotherms for the present system has been tested at 25±2 C. The maximum adsorption capacity of the adsorbent for Cu (II) ions was calculated from the isotherm and found to be 111 mg/g. The Langmuir isotherm model is found to be the most suitable one for the Cu2+ adsorption using nano structured alumina. This study showed that the adsorption of copper by nano structured alumina is a promising technique and can be used it as a good and new adsorbent for wastewater treatment.
