Breast cancer screening among Iranian women: a systematic review

Background: Breast cancer screening and early detection is one of the most crucial strategies in cancer prevention that can lead to early treatment and increasing patient survival. Various factors such as socioeconomic status, lifestyle, health education, social support, attitude and behavior can effect on screening behavior. Materials and methods: This study is part of a systematic review which is assessed breast cancer related articles conducted in Iran from 2005 to 2015.Various databases were searched including PubMed, Scopus, Web of science and SID and IRAN MEDEX as Iranian resources. Results: About forty articles met the inclusion criteria. These article were about the breast cancer screening (BSE, CBE and mammography) and the factors affecting it. The results showed that the performing breast self-examination by best estimate was 4%-79.4% ,annual clinical breast examination was reported to be 4.1%- 31.25% and mammography was done in 1.3%- 23.2% of all of women .This statistics are different in women who refer to public health for Routine examination or workers in health centers and hospitals ,due to their higher knowledge in the field It is for BSE, CBE and mammography about 34.7%-79.4%, 31.25% and 11.8%-21% respectively. Conclusion: A systematic study was achieved in 2000-2010 years by naghibi, et al. It showed that the rate of BSE and CBE about 1.8 - 19.3% and 3 – 26 %, respectively. Comparing results show that early diagnosis behaviors has increasing rates in recent years. According the importance of promoting awareness of the use of screening methods (BSE, CBE, mamography),it seems that women awareness should become the main point of any effort in breast cancer prevention in Iran
