چکیده مقاله:

Introduction and Objectives:Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most disseminated infectious diseases which threaten the public health in community as well as in the hospitals. Escherichia coli (E. coli) are one of the main causes of the disease. Resistance in E. coli strains isolated from UTI patientsis considered to be one of the most challenging issues so thatprevalence of potential extended-spectrum-β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing E. coli strains has been reported to be increasing across the world rapidly. This study was performed to find out the prevalence of blaTEM, and blaSHV genes among E. coli isolates from UTI cases.Materials and Methods:Totally106E. coli isolates were obtained from 106 urine samples belonging to UTI clinically diagnosed patients using by microbiological culturing and biochemical tests. The isolates were screened for blaTEM and blaSHVgenes by conventional PCR (polymerase chain reaction) method. Results: The blaTEMwas the most predominantgene with 88.7% frequency compared withblaSHV which found in 6.6% of E. coli isolates.Conclusion:E. colistrains isolated from UTI patients showed to be substantially blaTEM-positive. Thesedata can help physicians to choose and prescribe a suitable antibiotic for UTI patients.
