Evaluating the success of SMS as a reminder to take medications on time in pediatrics infectious disease

Introduction: the surveys done in recent decade shows that 50% of the patient do not take medicine as prescribed. This frequent little mistake in method and time of taking medicine follows with big problems and huge cost for health care community. Multiple researches in world has studied about non adherence and its related factors and proved the efficacy of using a reminder system in medicine adherence. There are growing surveys in this field and its causes such as forgetting and different ways to solution in world.111There are numerable researches about using a reminder system for taking anti biotic even in world and in this study try‟s to evaluate using a reminder system in taking antibiotic in pediatric infectious disease, because surveys shows there is no study on using reminder instrument in specific health care needful pediatric until 2010 and rarely after that.In this study we tried to design a specific reminder system to send text message for antibiotic adherence in pediatric infectious disease first and then evaluate its efficacy and feasibility of routing and extended usage.Method and materials: after counting sample content due to previous studies and specific inclusion criteria, 114 patients divided in two case and control group including 57 members, enter to study for 1 month. Then after designing a short message service (sms) as reminder, prescribed medicines were sent regularly to patient until the end of healing period we called patients parent and asked 7 to 10 question about advantages and disadvantages of using this method in patient healing and completing the course of treatment.Result: overall the results were successful, in case group regular and on time sms delivery 95%, help to taking medicine on time and correctly 90%, help to end healing period 95%, refer to physician because of not healing 0, and interesting in using an adherence reminder 83 %, shows efficacy of sms in this evaluation. In compare in control group 70% of participants had forgotten time and 85% the correct way of taking medicine at least for one time. Although only 72% of them were successes tu complete the treatment course and 5% had further refer to physician because of non-healing. 45% of this participant believed that using a reminder system can help in medicine adherence.
