Pumped storage can provide some part of the flexibility that power system operators need to balance the generation in an uncertain environment, and thus enhance a power system s ability to incorporate wind power. Since the process of balancing wind power involves various integrations of wind generation and loads, the amount of pumped storage capacity should be evaluated by using a large number of scenarios. This paper describes a chronological production simulation platform and its application in planning pumped storage capacity for the Jiangsu (China) provincial power system the daily dispatching of various types of units is simulated using a unit commitment module. A simulation of wind farm operation is incorporated in this module evaluate the effect of its variability on daily dispatching. The result of this survey vividly shows that how much cost should be expected for the generation and cutting of wind energy in different capacity of pumped storage. A comparison between expenses of investment and operation for determining capacity of pumped storage has been performed and at the end analysis of variable sensitivity has been done to assess the effect of key parameters on optimized capacity
