Today there are many diseases in the world like Cancer that the therapy of these diseases has been undermined by resistance. A need for identifying alternative natural and safe sources of molecules, especially of plant origin, to treat these diseases has notably increased. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in obtaining biologically active compounds from natural sources. The protective effects of diets rich in fruits and vegetables against cardiovascular diseases and certain cancers have been attributed partly to antioxidants contained therein. Olive tree is one of the potential natural antioxidant sources because of its phenolic contents in fruits oil and leaves. The functional and therapeutic applications of olive leaves are attributed to the bioactive components. Olive leaves are a rich natural source of bioactive compounds such as oleuropein, yerbascoside, rutin, tyrosol and hydroxytyrosol which all display biologic activities including antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. Extraction is the first step of the analysis and utilization of the cellular bioactive compounds contained in medicinal plants. This review focuses on extraction techniques of the bioactive components from olive leaves in treatment of cancers.
