چکیده مقاله:

The Newmark sliding block displacement (NSBD) analysis is frequently used to evaluate the seismic stability of earth embankments. Up to now, many different correlations between NSBD and ground motion intensity indices have been proposed. Earthquake excitations are inherently vector quantities which can variously change depending on the orientation by which they are considered. Strike normal direction is assumed to be the orientation of maximum ground motion shaking in the near fault region. In this paper, orientation of maximum ground motion intensity indices (θmax) is studied. Results show that by increasing the distance from ruptured area, the aligning probability of θmax with strike normal direction decrease rapidly. In some cases, θmax of ground motion intensity indices is not equal with θmax of NSBD.
