Integer-valued data envelopment analysis; foundation theory with an empirical study

This paper deals with the case of integer-valued data in data envelopment analysis from axiomatic foundation point of view. For this purpose new notions of disposability and convexity are introduced and underlying production technologies are extracted which satisfy the minimum extrapolation principle in the classical types of returns to scales. We adapt the Farrell input efficiency measure to the integer DEA setting, and show how the efficiency score can be computed by solving a MILP problem. An empirical application to niversity departments illustrates the approach.
