Contribution of Physical Identifying Elements in Revitalization of Urban historical-deteriorated Texture(Case study: Arg Street in Mashhad city)

Today, gradual deterioration of identifying elements and structures in historical -deteriorated textures of big cities of Iran, along with functional inefficiency, dysfunction, and cultural-social issues in such textures has become an important challenge in management of these cities. Arg Street in the center of Mashhad is among historical textures of the city which in recent years have received less presence with the advent of architectural-urban paradigms that are imbalanced with historical-cultural structures, gradual destruction and deterioration of identified elements, formation of an interrupted view of history, culture and Islamic-Iranian identity, and deficiency in public services. Hence, the current research is to identify capacity of contribution of physical identifying elements in recreation of deteriorated texture of Arg Street. Research methodology in view of its target is practical-developmental and in view of its research design is analytical-descriptive. Data collection was made possible through interview, questionnaire, and library -documentary study. For this end, to make use of opinions of space users, the sample size, according to Cochran formula, is considered to be 100; and data analysis was made possible by Cramer and Phi analyses. Research finding ratify a meaningful relationship between physical identified elements and quantitative parameters in Arg Street. Results of this study show that planning or promoting quality of physical elements in the street can result in reviving and providing new demands of citizens and recreation based on the mood of Mashhad in the past as well as setting the ground for restoration of identity, memory, and history of Arg Street.
