Technology Transfer and Industrialization of Developing Countries and Turkey

Building a modern society in a country requires the development of transfer of an entire technological system containing an enormous amount of different components. Installing and maintaining these components demand technological knowledge. Therefore to be able to accelerate the economy technological adaptation and innovation is crucial especially for the technology intensive sectors.This paper attempts to analyze the mechanism of technological change and technology transfer to the Turkish Economy and the effect of the technological diffusion to different sectors. Even though technology transfer to the military was the most important; the other sectors such as communication, transportation the transfer of technology came with the foreign investment that they benefited also of being invested in the different sectors of the country.Industrialization demands an adaptation of new technologies with various changes according to the local conditions into the country. The diffusion period of technology has proved to vary considerably between and within countries and/or different regions of countries. There are also differences in the forms and methods of new technology transfers. I take Turkey as a case which has a developing economy and tries to attract foreign investment and new technology to accelerate the growth of national economy. To be able to identify Turkey’s general and specific characteristics, it would be suitable to examine it from an international perspective.The purpose of the study is to investigate the adaptation process of a new technology into later comer developing economies and the technology transfer economic performance of Turkey with structural and technical changes. Also the effect of technological transfer to the later comer’s developing economies is to be analyzed.
