چکیده مقاله:

The purpose of present study was to investigate the literal and technical meaning of drama,tragedy and epic and to evaluate their similarities and differences. In continue, the context ofShahnameh stories has been investigated and the difference of this story's context with thecontext of other stories of the Shahnameh has been determined and the roots of the story'semergence identified. After reviewing the characters of Rostam and Esfandiar, it was indicatedthat the story is an epic story and considering it tragedy leads to some problem if it get away fromits figurative meaning. Although the story is an epic one and not tragedy, but it has tragic themeand also contains many dramatic elements. The dramatic element which has been emphasized inthe present study is suspension. According to the first 61 verses of the story (narration sightshowing) that reveals the fate of the story, the suspense of this story is irony type. The authorhas investigated the usage of narration sight showing in creating dramatic suspense.
