CALCIUM STEARATE: A FAMILIAR AND USEFUL SURFACTANT IN PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRIES

Calcium stearate is an anionic surfactant (soap). Calcium stearate has quite different characteristics than the typical Soaps; it has very low solubility in water and high thermal stability. It has a lot of different application; in petrochemical industries calcium stearate is used as Acid acceptorin Ziegler–Natta reaction (poly olefin production in petrochemical companies), a good lubricant and stabilizer especially in PVC production. Raw materials for calcium stearate production are stearic acid and calcium hydroxide.
