چکیده مقاله:

Ships are considered to be more energy efficient than any other forms of transportation such as trucks or rial across the globe. Hence this fact leads to the transportation of over 80% of the world's commodities by shipping. Commercial shipping will rise futher as trade obstacles continue to fall. Lack of interset in air pollution emitted from ships and no emission control regulation by international regulatory agencies have allowed ships to become one of the major air pollution contributors in the world. Marine engines , in order to be cost effective, operate on extremely low-grade fuel with high sulfur and aromatic content. Other from of transportation bith land and air based systems use quite different and better quality types of fuel. Burning this low quality fuel causes emission of air pollutant from ships, which eventualy leads to acide rain, global climate change, particulary over oceans and damaging public health for those communities living near major port areas.
