PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF IACS CLASSIFICATION SOCITIES VS. NON- IACS

When a ship is registered by a flag State, that flag maintains the responsibilities and obligations imposed upon them by International Conventions for ships. The flagState must ensure that these ships comply with the conventions [1]. To achieve this, flag States regularly delegate some or all of the survey, certification and verification functions toRecognized Organizations (RO), most commonly known as Classification Societies. [2]. The main focus of present article is evaluation of performance of Recognized Organizations (IACS members) and comparison with NON-IACS. For this purpose, after introducing required terms, statistics of BIK Port State Control about ROs (2017) will be presented andcompared with the other references such as AMSA1 , Tokyo MOU2 and IOMOU3 (2017).
