Motive of Treatment Seeking in People with Depression and Anxiety; Considering Brain/Behavioral Systems Activity and Defense Mechanisms Maturity

Despite of the problems that depressed and anguished people are experience, there are some people with high levels of depression and anxiety traits that do not seek for any kinds of treatment. The aim of Current study was to find some personality factors which pave the path for this issue. The study involved two groups of treatment seeking & non seeking people (50 participants) who had above average depression and anxiety traits according to DASS scale. They were assessed by DSQ (in order to evaluate amount of using defense mechanisms); and GWPQ (in order to evaluate brain/behavioral systems activity); and then, compared with t_ test. Findings of the current study indicated there is a significant difference between the two above mentioned groups in terms of mature and some immature defense styles, and also some components of brain/behavioral systems. It seems that seeking or not seeking the treatment in the participants, was the result of two various biological, behavioral and cognitional cycles in a manner that maturation of defenses and fright behaviors play the most roles in these two orientations for treatment.
