Investigation of Plasma C-peptide level in Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is a biologically heterogeneous disease which has become the fifth leading cause of death from cancer in men worldwide. Recently, studies have shown thatcancer biomarkers could help to improve the management of cancer. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine the plasma C-peptide level in Iranian patients with prostate cancer. In the present study, 80 samples, including 40 patients with prostate cancer, and 40 healthy controls were collected. The level of C-peptide was investigated in prostate cancer patients and healthy controls by ELISA. Data were analyzed by SPSS software. Also, prostate cancer signaling pathway enrichment analysis performed on the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) database. Analysis of the level of Cpeptide was no statistically significant difference (P-value<0.17). However, the level ofC-peptide in prostate cancer increased compared to controls. The findings of the current study revealed no association between the level of C-peptide and prognosis in prostate cancer, at least in our patients studied. However, more in-depth and comprehensive investigations should be done.
