Comparative Sustainability of Bazaar in Iranian Traditional city and Dubai Modern City (Case studies : Lar, Dubai)

Development of a city is a vital procedure. In this term utilizing development plans thatwould prepare a sense of unity and integration in relation to the city as a whole is vital.Bazaars as a unifying element connect the main urban functions and guarantee the cityeconomic and social life. Sustainability of bazaars in Iranian traditional cities seeks tofind the solutions concerning the effect of the city development on cultural heritage andurban element of the city. The main aim of this study is to explain the differences of thesustainability role of the bazaar in the traditional Iranian city and the modern Dubai city.Accordingly the most important question of this research are as follows: What is the roleof bazaar’s structure to obtaining long term sustainability according to the image ofcitizens , How do bazaars play out their role as unifying factor (among sustainablefeatures) in these cities The case studies are the city of Lar in south of Iran and Dubai.Methodology of this study is based on qualitative and quantitative data, first we useddocumentary method for collecting data, and then we had fieldtrip and formal/informalinterviews. Next, Parameters from the qualitative method obtained from case studies andreview main factors in creating bazaar. Finally quantitative evaluation was used tocompare bazaar sustainability in Lar and Dubai. Consequently results emphasizes thatbazaar provide cohesion among the different part of cities, such as residential areas aswell as socio_economical _environmental and commercial centers.
