چکیده مقاله:
Long Rang Ultrasonic Testing (LRUT) is an advanced ultrasonic testing technique used for inspection of oil and gas pipelines. This method employs ultrasonic guided waves, which are classified as either axisymmetric (longitudinal or torsional) or non-axisymmetric (flexural). In this paper, generation of guided waves by various loading conditions in pipes are studied. Surface loading conditions, such as axisymmetric and non-axisymmetric partial loading and circumferential loading are used for excitation of different modes in the pipe. It is demonstrated that the use of a non-axisymmetric partial loading technique can generate axisymmetric modes which are useful in the inspection of tubing and piping with limited circumferential access. It is also shown that both axisymmetric and non-axisymmetric guided wave modes should be considered in order to improve the overall analysis of guided waves in hollow cylinders. Results show that with full circumferential loading, pure L(0,2) mode could be generated, and with decrease in surface loading coverage, other longitudinal and flexural modes could be excited. This would make the inspection process more complicated.
