Academic spin-offs are means of technology transfer from public research institutions to the private sector. Parent organization plays an important role to build and acquire entrepreneurial resources for academic spin-offs when specific resources and skills are required. In literature, however, it is debated whether the performance of academic spin-off starters depends on the parent support. Drawing on the resource-based view, we developed a model that assesses the impact of the university support on the performance. The study is based on a survey among 80 academic spin-offs in the Iran that received support from their parent organization in terms of financial support, infrastructural support, human support, network support and legal support. We conclude that university support in terms of human and financial support enhances the performance of academic spin-offs in terms of revenue, sales and profit performance.
